Data Analytics & Grid Design

Data analytics

Electricity utilities, regulators, and energy ministries have a central position in the energy transition. Many challenges and new opportunities arise. Understanding what is happening on the grid today and tomorrow is essential to assure reliability and design the future grid. Collecting and analysing data results in understanding the energy system.

By understanding data, utilities are able to:

  • identify new services and business models,
  • integrate renewable energy resources with limited grid investments,
  • develop flexibility mechanisms/demand response,
  • increase reliability,
  • and to decrease network losses.

NTCS supports its clients by identifying data sources, retrieving insights from available data, developing dashboards and applications, and building new business services.

Grid design

Grid design and planning teams carry the responsibility to make the electricity grid future-proof. These teams have to plan investments to keep the grid reliable while new technologies, such as renewable energy sources and electric vehicle chargers, are integrated. Based on models of the electricity grid, power flow calculations, and estimations of current and future production and demand, these teams are able to identify future bottlenecks in the grid and strategically plan investments. By creating 5- or 10-year investment plans on a regional and/or national level, grid planning teams, and their business managers play an essential role in making energy systems greener.

NTCS supports these teams in improving the grid planning process by incorporating data-driven decision-making.
